About Mark Howard-Johnson
Mark Howard-Johnson, CFA, managing director, is global head of real estate securities management for BlackRock Real Estate and a member of the Real Estate Global Executive Committee. The Real Estate Securities team is the result of a joint venture between the real estate and fundamental equity groups. Mark‘s responsibilities include developing and overseeing the investment team and its processes as well as the creation of various public real estate securities products to be made available to both the retail and institutional channels. His service with the firm dates back to 2012. Previously, Mark was the CIO for the real estate securities team at Building and Land Technology, where he was responsible for launching its real estate securities management effort. He also served as global head and CIO for the Real Estate Securities Team at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Over his more than ten year tenure, Mark oversaw the launch of the business and grew it to in excess of $5 billion in AUM. Its flagship offering, a US total return strategy, produced top quartile performance while consistently besting its index, averaging nearly 200 bps per annum of gross out-performance over the ten years. Mark is an active member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts and sits on the Investment Advisory Council. He earned his BA from Dartmouth College.
